The Make Some Comics class has been lots of fun so far. We have a few different ages and artistic backgrounds, all learning things valuable to their comic making. Thanks to their comments, this past week I realized that the lessons I'm teaching are like comedy. The best jokes are often the ones that bring to your attention something we all have observed, but no one has officially recognized that we do. Like how Seinfeld showed us about “close-talkers”, “double dipping”, and other breaches of 90s etiquette.
I believe that the core lessons I'm teaching are ones that ring true as soon as you hear them. You may have thought about it in passing, but to have it placed in front of you and explained, makes it more concrete, learnable and discussable.
If you want to learn some of the nuts and bolts of comic theory, it's not too late to join in for the last two sessions... Call 416-500-6943 and ask for Julia :)
